spring fever

After a gorgeous spring preview last week I've officially caught spring fever! Unfortunately it's still February and we woke up to 4+ inches of snow this morning... In the meantime, I'm getting ready for spring by starting an herb garden! I'd love to grow some of my own vegetables too but I need to test out my green thumb.. Here are my seedlings sitting on a sunny windowsill. Spring cannot come fast enough.

easy makeover

A few months ago my grandmother gave me this little step-stool that was in her bedroom. The cherry finish wasn't my style but I knew it would be perfect in my kitchen!

I primed it with some gray primer then a couple of coats of black paint. I finished it up with some polyurethane.. and here it is! Perfect for my kitchen!

Last week I was reading the latest issue of House Beautiful when I saw the March "Kitchen of the Month." It literally stopped me in my tracks. I'm sure I've confessed before that I don't love our kitchen cabinets. But there's nothing wrong with them, they are solid cherry and in great shape. But I dream of a bright white kitchen...

So when I saw this bright farmhouse kitchen with cherry cabinets I thought of how I could change a few things to embrace my own kitchen. Here are the pics I can't get off my mind...

So this week I'm going to paint the trim bright white and the walls (not the chalkboard wall, don't worry!) in Benjamin Moore's Puritan Gray. Then I might just try to install a white subway tile backsplash.

I'm on a roll!

I finished painting my powder room this weekend! Crossing one more off my 2011 list! I chose Benjamin Moore's Gray Owl for the walls and Dutch Boy's Brilliant White for the trim. I also replaced the light fixture. The old one came with the house and was terrible. I can't believe how much bigger the space looks now! Here it is:

The walls are definitely grayer in person, there's not much light in this part of the house so it's hard to get a good picture.

I scored this fabulous light fixture at the Restoration Hardware outlet last week for less than $25! I love the milk glass look it has!

4 months...

And we'll be at our favorite vacation spot... Hilton Head. After this winter, it cannot come soon enough! Dreaming of warmer weather this weekend...

I'm crossing the first of my 2011 goals off the list! I got this beauty from CSN Stores last week and just had to get it up immediately! It makes such a big difference in our kitchen! I just love it. I do think I need to take out another link or two, but that's a quick fix. I love how a simple change can really make a difference!

Tomorrow I'm working on painting my powder room.. maybe I'll try to do one a month!
