A few weeks back I saw this charming sign on My Sweet Savannah. I knew it was just what I needed for my guest bedroom. We have this blank space over the window area that was lacking something.. So I decided to try to make my own "guest cottage" sign.
I gave it a good sanding to give it that vintage look. And so the other paint colors would show through. I printed out the words on my computer and shaded in the backs of them with a pencil. Next, I taped the letters on the piece of wood so I could trace them.
After the outlines were on ready I filled them in with some black craft paint. I believe I did 3 coats to get the perfect color. After it was dry I gave the whole thing another thorough sanding. Lastly, I went over the edges with a little stain to make the bare wood stand out a bit more... Here it is! I can't wait to hang it in our guest bedroom!
For the life of me I cannot figure out how you traced the letters. Did you cut them out first? I just cannot visualize how it worked. Can you help me...because I want to make a beach sign.
ReplyDeleteHey there! I just printed them out on the computer, and trimed them down to fit onto the sign. You just turn the paper over and trace the outline of the letters with pencil. Then you tape the words to the sign and trace the letters. This will transfer the lead from the pencil on to the wood leaving you an outline that you can just fill with paint. Hope this helps.
