We're going on two years in our house and I've finally ordered some blinds for my living room. Why has it taken me this long? Honestly, I just couldn't find some that I really liked.  I really wanted a light, beachy feel so I decided on dark stained bamboo roman shades. I finally found these beauties from jcpenny.com and they should be coming in mid July!

I thought I'd show you all some of my favorite rooms with bamboo roman shades. They really are such a great alternative to regular blinds!

a touch of Charleston

Last year I bought this old window in Charleston. After sitting around for 10 months I finally decided to hang it this past weekend. I think it adds the perfect amount of vintage charm to our living room!

winter mantle

I love decorating for the winter. It's that in between the holidays and spring. I love using mercury glass, white, greens and birds.

I loved the topiary I recently made so much I decided to make a matching wreath for my winter mantle.

rate my space inspired

A few months back I found this gorgeous dining room by moredesign on Rate My Space. I loved how calm it was and knew it would be the perfect look for my living room. I love the balance of the light and dark colors.

Here is my living room before the makeover...

I chose to use Restoration Hardware's Silver Sage for the wall color and used Dutch Boy Brilliant White in Semi-gloss for the trim. I love the contrast of the dark panels against the light walls!

celing fan makeover

So when we first moved into our house everything was brass. Every knob, fixture, hinge and ceiling fan. Now, if you know me, I HATE brass. So gradually over the last 11 months I've been switching out everything! One of my more recent projects was to tackle the ceiling fans. We have three of the same brass fans throughout our home and it didn't really make sense to get rid of perfectly good fans just b/c of the color. So, Rustoleum Oil Rubbed Bronze here we come!


I started by taking down the blades and taking off the brass hardware. Then I taped around the base of the fan w/o taking it down! I cut up some trash bags to tape to the ceiling to protect it while I sprayed. After two coats of the bronze spray paint I put everything back together! Here's the finished product. Amazing difference isn't it. And only for the cost of one can of spray paint! Next up I'm going to do the one in our bedroom in a brushed nickel...
