flag project

When I first saw this flag in the Pottery Barn catalog this summer I knew Mr O' would love it. So in trying to turn our basement into his space I decided to make one of my own...

I started out by buying three of these little paint testers from Glidden. They are the perfect amount for a project like this one!

I purchased a piece of plywood at Home Depot and had it cut down to 2' x 3'.

I began by measuring out the number of stripes needed and drew them on the wood.

I then started painting the stripes, alternating between the red and the white.

Then it was time for the stars. I cut out 50 paper stars and taped them to the plywood. I then traced around them and filled them in with the antique white paint.

After the stars were dry I filled in the open space with the blue paint. So it looked like this once all the painting was finished.

After everything had dried I roughed it up a bit with an electric sander. To finish it up I used some Minwax gel stain to age it a bit. Here's the result....
