golf course project

I found this canvas on etsy recently and knew it would be the perfect addition for our golf inspired basement. Susie Harris recently posted on her blog about a diy project she did and I thought this would be the perfect way to attempt replicating the golf course canvas.

I started out by printing out names of famous and local golf courses in different fonts. I traced the back of them with pencil so I could transfer the lead to my plywood.

Speaking of plywood, I purchased a 2 foot square piece at the Home Depot and painted it black.  I then laid out my cut out names and taped them w/ painter's tape to the painted wood. All you need to do to transfer the words to the wood is trace the edges of the letters! So easy!

Here it is after everything has been traced. You can barely see the faint pencil lines.

I then painted the names with some white paint...

Lastly I sanded the whole thing down, especially the edges to get a more vintage look. I finished it up by applying one coat of gel stain to seal the whole thing and darken the exposed wood and white paint. I LOVE the way it came out! Hopefully Mr O' feels the same...

  4. Great job! I really like this idea. You can have a golf/sports themed room without it looking tacky and too themed, you know? What a great gift for a golfer in your life as well.
