hmmm

I've never been thrilled with my master bedroom.... which is why I've never posted a picture of it. Since moving in less than two years ago it's already been painted twice. I just never feel that it's finished. I've been toying with ideas on how to improve it and I stumbled across this picture....

You see, we have these nightstands from Ikea....

What if I painted them gray?? I feel like everything matches too much in the bedroom since we have these nightstands and two dressers from the same set. I think I might just have to do this. This weekend.

friday finds: Seattle

For this weeks Friday Finds we're heading back to Seattle for a reader who is looking for hutch or sideboard for her dining room.

The first piece I found is a great smaller oak hutch. I think it would look beautiful painted, with new hardware and I would replace the glass with some chicken wire for a more rustic feel. This is a great find for only $100.

This is my favorite type of vintage china hutch. It has that french feel and can be updated to be very Hollywood Glam looking in high gloss black paint, or it could be stipped down and limed for that farmhouse look. Or my favorite painted white and heavily distressed. It would be amazing painted and with a light gray wallpaper in the back. And you can't beat the $95 asking price.

This hutch has much more of a rustic/country feel. It's smaller and in great condition so it would be a easy makeover! The planks in the back would really stand out once painted and give it a great look. Available again for only $100!

If you're feeling up to a challenge this is the sideboard for you. It's a great vintage find, but needs some work. It could be easily be rehinished if you have some patience. It would need to be sanded down, primed and painted but would look fantastic. Some new hardware and it's a whole new piece! And it's a steal at only $50.

This hutch has a very rustic feel. It's a solid piece that could easily have a whole new look! And at $50 I don't think I could pass on this one...

This sideboard is the type I'm always looking for. It's seriously stunning. It could even be used in a nursery as a changing table because of it's low height. It's being sold at a consignment store so you can always offer less than the $150 asking price. But the price is fair for a great find like this one.

Are you looking for a specific piece for your house? Leave a comment or send me an email and I'd be glad to look for your for an upcoming friday finds!

outdoor drapes

What do you all think about outdoor drapes? I'm trying to get a plan together for out deck and patio and am toying with the idea of using drapes. Obviously they'd have to be outdoor fabric like Sunbrella because they would be getting wet. Here are some pics for inspiration.. I'd love to hear what you think!

vintage candelabra

Do you remember this adorable vintage candelabra I picked up in Atlanta? Well, I picked up this brass beauty for less than $5 at a flea market.

A few coats of primer and heirloom white and here she is now. Such a difference!!!

oh man...

This picture has me totally rethinking my entry area.... maybe my Louis trunk will finally have a home!

bench makeover

My mom ordered this adorable bench from a local unpainted furniture store to go with this vanity I recently painted for her.

Here it is.. as plain as you can get.

If you're painting unfinished furniture it's really important to prime it first. The bare wood will soak up a ton of paint. I started out by doing a good coat of gray primer.

Then painted it with the same Glidden black paint I used on the vanity. And then sealed it with a spray polyacrylic. After it was dry I put screwed the top back on and here it is!

follow up on outdoor rugs

After my post on outdoor rugs the kind folks at CSN Stores offered to send me one for my deck! You may have heard about CSN on other blogs or the web. They are a great source for everything from home decor, furniture like a hard to find corner tv stand or even baby gear! Make sure you check them out!

In the mean time I'll be looking through the thousands of outdoor rugs they have...

friday finds: Louisville

This week we're heading down to Louisville! While it may be home to the Kentucky Derby it is also a great place to find steals on furniture!

This shabby little dresser is just adorable. It's already been refinished and his very distressed. It has the most amazing large glass knobs on it! It can be yours, with no work needed for $140!

I'm always searching my local Craigslist for a round coffee table so when I saw this one for only $25 I knew I'd have to post it. Seriously an amazing find! It would be gorgeous painted!!

This coffee table is in desperate need of refinishing. It has clearly been heavily used but it has great legs and tons of potential. I wouldn't pass it up at only $10!

This little shabby chic cabinet would be perfect in a bathroom for extra storage or even used as a nightstand. It's listed at $65 but they will negotiate! All I would change would be the knob, you could do a colored glass one to add a little extra charm.

I just love these vintage tilt top tables. The shape of this one is seriously stunning. It would be great as a side table next to a chair or sofa! Would not pass this one up at $40!

This dining set is gorgeous. I just love the shape of the top of the table. It's a very reasonable price at $150 for the table and three chairs. I think I would remove the finish on the table to make it more rustic and then just seal it.

Hope everyone has a fantastic weekend! If you'd like to have your city featured on Friday Finds leave a comment here or send me an email!

What do y'all think about outdoor rugs? I am looking for ideas for our deck and patio and am thinking about getting a rug to make it more of living space. Here are a few pictures I've found for inspiration.
