the big reveal.

This one has certainly been a long time coming... the stair project is finally done! It took a lot longer than I expected but I am so happy with the results.

This is what it looked like before ripping up the carpet..

Here's what I found under the carpet..

After lots of stripping and sanding I stained the stairs a wood tone to match the hardwood floors we already have. Then decided to paint them with black floor paint. I used Glidden's Porch & Floor paint after a coat of gray primer. For the trim and risers I used white Kilz primer and then Dutch Boy's Brilliant White in semi-gloss. The walls I used Glidden's Antique White.

Here it is now!

I also replaced the flush mount light fixture over the front door with a lantern type that I ordered from CSN stores. The rug is an indoor/outdoor Safavieh rug that fit perfectly. It's also from CSN.

  4. Darn it, I'm so jealous! I want stairs like this! Stupid nasty carpet. Awesome that you tackled this and that it turned out so well, they look awesome!!!! (And I want a lantern instead of our current foyer chandelier too - you are my hero!) Did you not like how the stain came out, is that why you switched to black?

  6. I saw your stairs over at Kristin's and had to come by and let you know how wonderful they looked. I was a bit confused on the staining but I see now that you did stain but then decided on the black paint. So pretty, great job!
