white sofas?

So our two year old sofas in our living room are on their last legs. I made the mistake of getting microfiber with two pets and I'm just overall not impressed with the quality of them. So much to Mr O's chagrin I've been lusting over getting some white slip covered sofas. Probably the Ikea Ektorp.. what do you all think of white sofas? I'd love to hear your opinions, especially if you have them!

  1. I have the Ektorp sofa in white and LOVE it. It is very comfortable, and the slipcovers are only $50! Everyone is always shocked that it came from Ikea.

  3. If you like the lines of your current sofa's why not just get white slipcovers for them? I bet you could even get some custom made for a fraction of the cost of new sofa's. If you sew then you could even do them yourself!

  4. I actually made a sectional out of three old sofas (all very similar in style) that I bought from a couple of local thrift stores. I just ripped off a couple of arms, fit the corner together as well as I could, then covered the back with batting to hide the seams. I then bought a bunch of white sheets (the heavier, perma-press kind) from the thrift stores and sewed a super-fast (ok, not the best) slipcover for it. It's about 10 foot long on one end and about 6 on the other, to fit our living room. I figure I only have about 90 dollars into my new, dream sectional! Got to love thriftin'!
